I am not one to spend too much time on my make-up. For work, shopping, grabbing coffee and general day-to-day wear, I use concealer under my eyes, blusher on my cheeks, a dust of powder on my T-Zone and add a few soft strokes of Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil to define my eyebrows. Then if I am feeling really fancy – or just have a spare two minutes – I may also use a bit of mascara on my lashes (currently No7 Stay Perfect Mascara).
Because of my minimal approach to make-up concealer is my essential, it provides that little bit of coverage, where it is needed most and gives me the confidence to go (almost) barefaced. I have recently purchased two concealers, the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit in beige and pale yellow and the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer in medium.
Unintentionally I appear to have purchased two totally different concealers, one heavy and one light in coverage, one thick and one liquid based in texture, so it only seemed right that these two products should battle it out.
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit
Packaging – 10/10
One thing I can’t fault Bobbi Brown on is their packaging, and this concealer kit is no exception, it oozes minimalist style. It comes in a back compact complete with a mirror (love it), the concealer itself and setting powder.
Usability – 6/10
I applied the concealer to moisturised skin (I used Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream) using my fingers and blended it in. I then applied the setting powder on top and for this step I used a make-up brush. Applying this product takes a little more time than I would normally like to spend because there are two steps and the thick consistency requires extra blending, so I personally find it not really suitable for everyday use when let’s face it, we are in a rush.
Wear and tear – 4/10
The texture of this concealer is quite thick and so it is very hard wearing and provides heavy coverage. One thing that I did find was that it sank into any small lines and creases that were underneath my eyes and in doing so emphasised them quite a lot, definitely not a good look!
I bought this concealer kit to use underneath my eyes and it hasn’t really worked for that purpose. That being said I think the heavy coverage would be much more suitable for covering spots and blemishes, as with the thick consistency you know that this product is not going anywhere!
Price – 3/10
At £35 this is a bit of a splurge and for me and my needs this product did not live up to my expectations.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place Flawless Wear Concealer
While slightly lacking on the sophistication of the Bobbi Brown kit, this concealer comes in classy packaging with a fabulous gold lid.
I love a quick and simple application and this concealer is certainly that. It comes with a precision wand so I simply placed a few dots underneath my eyes and blended with my finger. I opted for the medium shade, which I did worry would be too dark for my skin (I always buy under-eye concealer in a shade lighter than my usual skin tone), but this product blends perfectly so you wouldn’t even know it was there. Wonderful.
Wear and tear: 10/10
This one has a light and more liquid based texture compared to the Bobbi Brown concealer, but it still manages to live up to its name and stayed in place all day. The light texture meant that it merged into my skin easily, but still provided great – without being heavy – coverage.
Price – 8/10
This product is priced at £22, which although at the higher end of the scale delivers on its promise of longevity, is quick and easy to apply and the light texture is a dream.

And the winner is…
You have probably guessed by reading the above that the Estée Lauder concealer was my favourite. The ease of use, light consistency, longevity and subtleness won me over, I really don’t want to spend too long applying make-up in the morning and this product is perfect for when you have to be out the house in five minutes.
